Closest Limestone Mile Finish
Queen’s XC and track runners Braden Novakowski and Matt Hulse hit the line for the closest 1-2 finish in LImestone Mile history. The racing began at 9am on Canada Day under beautiful blue skies. 111 athletes entered the four events, for one of our largest turnouts in recent years. Andrew Martin led the field of 42 junior runners for the day’s first event. Alexander Hinton and Stephanie Hulse took the Highschool heat. The Women’s race was won by Tasha Derzekos. For the men’s race, Alexander Hinton’s 4:40 was two seconds faster than his winning time for the highschoolers. However, it was fifth-best for the day, with Paul Chafe in 4th at 4:31 and Queen’s alum Kevin Dunbar taking 3rd at 4:29. Novakowski and Hulse put on a show for the throng of several hundred race fans with a photo finish of 4:23.4 and 4:23.6 respectively. Fitting for two guys who’ve been battling it out in the 1500 all this past University Track season. For the finish times of all four races, click on “2008 Limestone Mile” at the lower right of this page. Age group results will be on this site in the coming days.

Limestone Tri This Weekend
There are still some spots open for this weekend's Limstone Charity Tri at CFB Kingston/RMC. This is a terrific event for anyone who's thinking about doing a triathlon for the first time. The swim is in the safe, warm confines of the Kingston Military Sports Complex pool, the ride is out Highway 2 on a wide, well-marked bike lane, and the run is through the beautiful campus at RMC. One of the coolest aspects of this race is that all the prizes are draw-prizes which means you can win, just by paying your entry and doing your best. That also means you could walk away (or perhaps ride away) with a $2000 bike from TI Cycle! Entry forms are at Runners' Choice at 260 Princess.

Kingston Runners In Two Big Races
Kingston (and the KRRA) will be well represented May 24-25 both in Ottawa and Cape Breton. Dozens of local runners will be taking on the Nordian 10k this Saturday, and the ING Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday in Ottawa. Conditions look excellent for a great weekend of racing. Early Saturday morning the Cabot Trail Relay takes off from Baddeck, Nova Scotia with another bunch of Kingston and ex-Kingston runners. Its a shame that these two fantastic events are on the same weekend, but perhaps that's what makes them both a bit more special. Good luck to all our club members who'll be running. We'd really like to hear your experiences (especially if you're racing one of these events for the first time) and even use your words in the next issue of The Runner. Email your race report and any pictures you wouldn't mind seeing published, to jelyot@yahoo.com.

Three Races in 31 Days!
KRRA runners are being treated to a menu of great races of different lengths, and you don't have to leave home for them (unless you're not from Kingston). Sunday June 1st sign up for our annual 8 km Beat Beethoven run through the streets of Kingston, along our beautiful waterfront and around Queen's University campus. The Kingston Symphony provides live accompaniment for your run...but the challenge is to get back to the finish in front of City Hall before the orchestra plays the last note of Beethoven's 3rd. Think you can do it? Sunday June 15th its a 5km race for the family. The Kingston Family YMCA on Wright Cresent is where you'll find the K's For Kids run to support the Children's Aid Society here in Kingston. Every child who enters comes away with a medal in this one. Finally, Tuesday July 1st, you can be part of a great Kingston tradition: The Limestone Mile. It's really four races in one: a children's race; one for the teens; a women's challenge and the men's race. Best of all, the whole day only takes about an hour of your time, and its the start of a fantastic day of family fun as Kingston celebrates Canada Day downtown.

Run With the Wild is ready for Mothers Day
Hello All, I just got back from running the course at Lemoines Point, Kingston. It seems ready for the 5km Run with the Wild Cross Country Run. Only issue is that the course will be our hardest race ever. More mud and some flooding on the trails. They are calling for sunshine for the day but I recommend everyone running, bring extra shoes and clothing. There will be plenty of volunteers and St Johns Ambulance at the race. You can still enter today at Runners Choice or before the race at Lemoines Point (north entrance). Race starts at 11am. See you there!
