KRRA student bursary

Each year the Kingston Road Runner Association makes available two bursaries for high school students who qualify and apply.  Since 2009 the KRRA has awarded eight $500 bursaries, to female and male graduates, active in running, of a Kingston & District secondary school.  For full eligibility criteria, please click here for the 2016  application form.

The 2014 KRRA Bursary winner is Kevin Bates.  Kevin is a graduate of Regiopolis-Notre Dame Secondary School.

He has been running competitively since 2010, participating in cross country, track and a number of KRRA road races.  Kevin has represented Regiopolis at KASSAA, East Regionals as well as OFSAA. He placed first in the KRRA under 20 male category and in 2013 he was the 5th overall male.  In addition he has played volleyball, soccer and in the senior concert band at Regiopolis.  Highlights include a team bronze at the 2012 OFSAA volleyball finals and a performance at Carnegie Hall with the concert band.

Kevin maintained an average over 95% during his high school years.  He has volunteered at a number of school and community running events, and in 2014 he supervised long runs at Regiopolis, and served as a volunteer volleyball coach.

Kevin will begin his studies in biomedical engineering at the University of Ottawa  in September, 2014.
