Start2finish is an organization whose main goal is to address generational poverty in Canada by helping children with fitness, nutrition, and literacy.
The program was started by Olympic marathoner and Canadian marathon women's record holder Silvia Ruegger.

For more information on the program visit http://start2finishonline.org/programs/run...-reading-clubs/

The Running & Reading Club after-school program is a 32-week companion program to the Backpack Program that effectively addresses the need for enhanced literacy and physical activity among economically challenged children in the communities it services.

Many of our current volunteers in our Kingston programs are university students. Many who leave Kingston before the programs completion at the end of May. We are looking for people from the running community of Kingston to step into these volunteer positions as soon as possible to spend a little time investing in the literacy, nutrition, and fitness of some of Kingston's most vulnerable children. The program currently runs at Frontenac and First Avenue Public School grade 1-6. This program is all about positive role modeling, encouragement, and personal attention. You don't have to be a top athlete (top athletes are wanted also biggrin.gif ), or education expert. We simply need people willing to come along kids as they train for a 5km run at the end of May (at York University with programs from across Ontario) and work on their reading skills. This program needs a lot of volunteers so we can give a lot of personal attention and encouragement to each child. The program runs from 2:30pm - 2:45pm on most Tuesdays for First Ave and Thursdays for Frontenac Public School until the end of May. This is a once a week 2 hour commitment until the end of May.

Bit of a follow-up to this item ... KRRA was proud to receive the a letter of thanks from Start2Finish for our contributions to their programs as a result of our paid memberships and proceeds from the Limestone Race Weekend. This letter of thanks needs to be shared with our members and racers!
