What is the KRRA and what are we up to?

The Kingston Road Runners Association (KRRA) is the only local running club in the Kingston area. The Association has an organizing Constitution, elected Board of Directors and an active membership base. All of the Association activities are pulled together by volunteers - many of whom are runners and people who support and encourage running.

The KRRA number one objective is to “encourage, foster, assist and promote middle and long distance running as a competitive and recreational sport, and as an activity which facilitates fitness and health”.

One of the challenges for an organization like KRRA is that unlike other sports such as soccer or minor hockey, we don’t have an easily identifiable home base. Running is both an individual sport, and a time to be with others to enjoy a run and catch up on the news. For many, running is a connecting activity through the adventures and changes in their lives. The KRRA is working hard to help with that connecting, by providing information through our website & our newsletter “The Runner”. We hope to keep you up to date on upcoming workouts, training groups and long Sunday runs and. We believe that through running, both individually and with others, while we supporting others in their accomplishments, we are part of a better, healthier community.

The KRRA co-ordinates and facilitates a multi-event series of road and trail races each calendar year. Together these events are known as the Race Series. The purpose of the Series is to promote safe, competitive local events for athletes and their families to enjoy. The Series includes varying distances and venues, to provide opportunity for training and competitive opportunities. In 2004, the local race series attracted nearly 1,600 participants in six events throughout the calendar year. Members and non-members participate in this sport through these races and results from each race are entered into a database and the annual series winners receive recognition and awards at the KRRA Annual meeting.

All KRRA events provide awards to the fastest three men and women as well as medals for top three male and female finishers in each age category.
The age categories are:
19 and under; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69 and 70 plus.

The KRRA sponsors the following annual events:

1. Resolution Run – 8 km race held on the Sunday closest to New Year’s Day
2. Twosome Run – 5 km race held in mid February
3. Limestone City Half Marathon and 5 km Race – late April/early May
4. Limestone Mile – Canada Day, July 1st.

In addition, there other events included in the Race Series. These events include:
Beat Beethoven 8km – first Sunday in June, and
Anniversary Run 10km – early November.

The KRRA also helps to sponsor other events in the Kingston area. For full details, see our Who Do We Support page.

We welcome members to the KRRA and this is a great bargain for both individuals and families.

The annual individual membership, from January to December each calendar year is only $20.00 and a family membership is $30.00.

• Members receive a $3 discount on each registration for the KRRA events.
• KRRA members also receive a 10% discount on running shoes, products and equipment at Runner’s Choice, our Gold Sponsor, 260 Princess Street, Kingston.
• Members are eligible for the Series Awards, based upon their standings in their best four results of the KRRA Series events.
• Members contribute to the energy of the Association and can participate as volunteers at events, projects and on the Board.
• Finally, membership participation in KRRA events keeps our costs for liability insurance lower, as the Association pays decreased premiums with more members participating in our events. See the application for membership on our website.

Introducing the KRRA Board:
