Local fast guy Kevin Dunbar is doing some interviews with local runners (possibly not so local too). This will be a new section of the website, we hope you like it. If you have anyone you'd like to know about or would like to submit a profile, we'd love it.

Braden NovakowskiBraden Novakowski

Braden Novakowski has represented Kingston running with class and character at some of the highest levels over the past few years. Running for Canada, he was able to claim a Silver medal in the 1500m at the 2005 Pan-American Junior Championships in Windsor. An OFSAA Champion in high school, he has added to his reputation for coming up big at the big races throughout his Queen’s Varsity career. His success as a Golden Gael includes a win at the 2006 Ontario Cross-Country Championships at Fort Henry and a Silver medal in the 1500m at the 2006 Canadian Championships in Saskatchewan. He will lead the Gaels as Captain of the Track and Field Team for 2007-08. This interview was conducted before the 2007 outdoor track season which has seen him come back from a fluke injury fast enough to quickly qualify for the 1500m race at the Canadian Track and Field Championships....more


Ralph WestgarthRalph Westgarth

Ralph Westgarth is heading off to Boston next weekend to attempt to complete the 60th marathon of his running career.  He is a teacher at Elginburg Public School who coaches the Cross-Country and Track programs. The halls of Elginburg Public are lined with his framed T-shirts from every running of the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope.  

Last year he was proud to host the family of Terry Fox as part of the annual Terry Fox Run at Elginburg. Terry’s mother told the touching story of seeing her son head out the door to try to run across Canada to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Steve BoydSteve Boyd

Steve Boyd sped from high school success and Queen’s intercollegiate athletics to the top of Canadian distance running and has stayed there for over 20 years. In a sport where much of the young talent packs it in shortly after graduation day, Steve is an incredible example of persistence and excellence. He has managed to combine family life and career as adjunct faculty at Queen’s with daily dedication to training and racing, and now coaching as well. Emily TallenEmily Tallen

Emily is a native of Kingston who dominated local high school running in the late 1990’s. During that time she ran on the Canadian Junior team and won medals at Ontario School Championships in Cross-Country and Track for the Frontenac Falcons. She went off to Providence College, Rhode Island on a full athletic scholarship to compete at the Division One level in the NCAA. PaulaPaula Wiltze

Paula Wiltse is a Kingston working mom who is competitive at the highest levels of Canadian women’s distance running. Her return to the racing scene in 2006 after the birth of her second child, Josh, saw her reach a new level of excellence and recognition in road races across Canada.  Her personal bests show incredible range from 17:10 in the 5K through 1:17:40 in the ½ marathon and 2:51:06 for the full 26.1 miles.
